Mumbai : During the ongoing process of the internal elections of the Congress, Sanjay Nirupam, Mumbai wing president, is likely to be changed by the party high command in August. Bhai Jagtap and Baba Siddiqui are aspirants for the post.
According to a Congress insider, Rahul Gandhi may be elevated as national president replacing Sonia Gandhi. “Mrs Gandhi though attending party meetings, she has limited them and ask leaders to meet Rahul for organisational work,” said the leader.
He claimed that party stalwart Salman Khurshid met Mrs Gandhi recently and tried to convince her to remain in the post; she rejected his plea.

Now, the party is conducting its internal election process which will complete in August. After selection of the national president, it will be the turn of the party’s state in-charge.
A source said, “Both Mohan Prakash, party chief for the state, and Sanjay Nirupam, president of Mumbai Regional Congress, will be changed.”
He added that it is certain that this time, Nirupam will not continue as president. Baba Siddiqui, who is on the radar of the Enforcement Directorate and Bhai Jagtap are two main aspirants for the post. “In August, Nirupam will be replaced by a new face,” the source said.
