The visit to Mumbai by former Congress leader and now cabinet minister in the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh Rita Bahuguna-Joshi to Mumbai has upset workers and leaders in both parties. BJP leaders from the state said that they were not informed about Ms. Bahuguna-Joshi’s first visit to the city, but a Congress leader MLA Kripashankar Singh knew. On the other side Congress leaders were furious over Mr. Singh making arrangements for a BJP leader who launched a fierce attack against the Congress party vice president Rahul Gandhi.
As per sources Ms. Bahuguna-Joshi after arriving in the city on Sunday, held press meets at a hotel in Goregaon, where Mr. Singh was also present. After that Ms. Bahuguna-Joshi attended a programme at a private engineering college in Mira Road with Mr. Singh. The Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation is all set to go for polls in two months. The area has significant number of north-Indian population and the BJP is hoping to win this election by increasing their voter base among north Indians. But a party minister attending a programme in the company with a Congress leader has not gone down too well.
According to the sources in the BJP, North Indian leaders are planning to send a complaint letter to the UP Chief Minister. Commenting on this BJP north Indian leader said that, “Had we been informed, we could have celebrated her arrival in city with banners and posters. It was a proud moment for us when BJP won U.P. Instead, Kripashankar Singh was present at the press meet. I cannot comment on which leader is sending the complaint to Adityanathji, as we have so many north Indian leaders.”
Mumbai Congress Chief commenting on this said that, “A leader of his [Mr. Singh’s] stature should think twice before accompanying a person who has used objectionable words against our party leader. I think we need to convey these actions to the party high command in Delhi, and we will do it.”
