MBMC Elections: Shiv Sena announces sops, flats up to 500 sq ft not to be taxed in Mira Bhayandar

Riding on its success during the recently conducted Mumbai and Thane Municipal corporation elections, the Shiv Sena said that it was willing to scrap taxes for flats  up till 500sq ft and offer concessions for flats till 700sq ft in the corporation elections slated this 20 August.

MLA Pratap Sarnaik announced that the same formula, which the people of Thane and Mumbai gave a positive response, could well be implemented in Mira Bhayander, if the state government continued its support. He also contested that his party was behind the development work in Mira Bhayander.

Refuting all the charges, the Mira Bhayander MLA Narendra Mehta claimed that Mira Bhayander was developed in lesser time as compared to Thane.

While addressing the media Sarnaik claimed that he and his party were responsible for getting land parcels approved for development work in Mira Bhayander.

Announcing an election sop he said that his party wants to scrap taxes for flats less than 500sq ft and concessions for flats less than 700sq ft. ‘During the BMC elections and Thane Municipal Corporation, TMC, we announced the scrapping of taxes for 500 sq ft flats and concessions for flats less than 700 sq ft flats and we got a good response.

The MBMC’s financial stress will have to considered and if the state government is supportive enough, we will try to implement the same scheme even here, said MLA Pratap Sarnaik. He was also cautious about the financial stress this announcement will bring on this Mira Bhayander Corporation.

Sarnaik also said that the MBMC commissioner should not work under any sort of pressure and help the election authorities punish people flouting the election code of conduct norms. He said this when it was alleged that a political party was distributing pressure cooker and Rakhi’s with image of lotus on it.

Mehta had thwarted these allegations and was confident of his support in this upcoming corporation election.
