The desperation of the BJP and Shiv Sena to grab power in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has become evident from it’s choice of candidates.
While the Shiv Sena’s list was loaded with candidates who had only recently made the switch from other parties, the BJP which is yet to release its official list has followed a similar line of action by accommodating candidates from other parties or those who were related to senior party functionaries, sources revealed.
Seething at being overlooked, aspirants from both the parties made it a point to emphasise the work they had done for their respective party for decades.
“Despite our hard work all these years, our leaders have imported candidates and kept us aside to pave way for new comers who have back stabbed their own political outfits with a sole agenda of cornering tickets for their themselves or their relatives in our party.” alleged a disgruntled Sena aspirant whose name disappeared from the list overnight to accommodate a sitting BJP corporator, just hours after she jumped onto the Sena bandwagon after being denied a ticket by her original party.
Interestingly a number of panels floated by both the parties do not have a single local party worker on board. A total of 677 candidates have filed their nominations for the 95 seats in the civic body which will be going for polls on August, 20.
However, clarity eluded on the number of forms rejected during scrutiny by the State Election Commission (SEC) as the data was yet to be released till reports last came in from the respective returning offices.
