Mumbai: The Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna has taken strong exception to Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar’s remark that he will become the defence minister once again in case he loses the Panaji by-election.
The Saamna editorial asked if the position of country’s defence minister was so cheap that anybody could stake claim to it?
Top Sena leaders in Mumbai speaking to IndiaScribes.com Editor Flynn Remedios said that Manohar Parrikar was a disgrace to Goa and to India and he must lose the by-polls. “He is not worthy to be the DM and definitely not the CM of Goa. He was sleeping when the country was in trouble and now wants to become the DM of India. He wants to lead a susegaad life, which is not what the DM should pine for. If he is loosing strength and is not able to manage for health reasons, he must gracefully retire. Or else the people of Goa must make him retire and sit at home. He has had his chance as DM and several times as CM of Goa. But still the people of Goa – which is a very small State are unhappy with him. We are surprised that Amit Shah has even entrusted such an important task to him,” they said.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to counter problems created by the Chinese and Pakistani military, Saamna took a dig at Parrikar, saying, “When the country was facing issues on its border, Parrikar turned his back to them, and returned to Goa to eat ‘fish-curry-rice’. Isn’t it a matter of great courage?”
The editorial further said that Parrikar’s image as a clean and straightforward politician had long been dented, adding, “he has proven he can’t look beyond himself.”
“He must lose. Let Goa see if he really becomes the Defence Minister after that. For how long is he going to fool the Goans?” the editorial asked. The by-election to two seats in Goa will be held on August 23.
Even Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray criticized Parrikar for his laid back attitude and taking the people for granted.
